Former PA official: any American effort ignoring Palestinians will not succeed

January 22, 2018 at 2:36 pm

Former Palestinian Authority (PA) ambassador to Cairo Nabil Amro reiterated on Sunday that any American effort regarding the peace process that ignores the Palestinians would not succeed, Quds Press reported on Sunday.

Amro told Quds Press that the US is trying to revive the peace process through Pence’s visit to the region, “but there are no guarantees for it to succeed.”

“They are talking about the peace process and efforts to revive it”, Amro said, but their approach does not “lead to results of this kind. I do not see any deal without the Palestinians being part of it.”

He stressed that the Palestinian must be part of any deal regarding their issue, as well as insisting that the US would not be acceptable in any role without first cancelling its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The Palestinian, who was the PA Representative to the Arab League, reiterated that none of the Palestinian, Arab or regional officials are “able to concede Jerusalem in any regional deal.”

In Jordan, King Abdullah told Pence that the only solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the two-state solution, stressing that Jerusalem should be the capital of a Palestinian state.
