young team from Larkhall YMCA Harriers have qualified for the Scottish Relay Championships final later this month.

The club had two under-13 girls’ teams competing in the heats and semi-finals, with the ‘A’ team of Chloe Hill, Chloe Gilfillan, Cody McHolm and Madison Murdoch progressing to the final on Saturday, February 24.

Team ‘B’, consisting of Eve McGhie, Erin McAulay, Caitlin Clark and Hayle Gilfillan performed very well but didn’t progress, although the event will have provided some good experience for the girls.

Larkhall had two other athletes competing at the event, both with new clubs.

Elle Thomson from Larkhall competed for Shettleston Harriers and although not qualifying, she gained valuable experience in her first year at that age group, and should look forward toa successful partnership with the club.

Alexander Young was also competing for his new second claim club, Giffnock North, and was part of a successful senior men’s team that won their heat and then took the Scottish 4 x 200m relay title.

Larkhall spokesman Scott Thomson said: “This is really a fantastic achievement from all our athletes and I would like to thank all coaches involved in the build-up to these events.

“Larkhall Harriers would also like to thank the Q Sports Lounge in Larkhall for their generous sponsorship of the club.”

Larkhall harriers’ training evenings are Tuesday and Thursdays from 7pm-9pm.
